Fierce fighting erupted between the southern armed forces and the Iran-backed Houthi militias in a border area between Yafa' district in the north of Lahj governorate and the Houthi-held province of al-Baidha, military sources reported in the early hours of Saturday.
Military field sources told the local media outlets that the Houthi rebels tried to sneak into the first sector of the front in a bid to advance towards the liberated area of al-Had.
The sources affirmed that the southern forces managed to drive back the attack inflicting heavy casualties on the pro-Iran militants.
Three soldiers of the southern army were killed in the armed clashes, the same sources added.
