Three southern soldiers were killed and three others were injured in heavy armed clashes broke out Sunday between the Southern Armed Forces and the Iran-backed Houthi militia in a border area between Yafa' district in the north of Lahj and the Houthi-held province of al-Baidha.
Military field sources said that the fighting erupted between the two sides following a Houthi infiltration attempt into the locations of the southern forces in the border area of Qasha'a Obeid supported by heavy shelling conducted by the Houthi artillery units in Habaj of al-Baidha.
The Southern forces managed to drive back the Houthi attack, inflicting heavy human and material loses on them, and forcing the other militants to escape, the same sources added.
Last Friday, the security forces arrested a terrorist cell of seven persons affiliated to Daesh in Wadi Hatib of Yafa' after their infiltration from al-Baidha province.
According to official statements, the terrorist cell was in possession of automatic firearms, bombs, explosive belts and black banners of ISIS.
The Houthi militants continue their military operations and drone strikes in conjunction with terrorist operations carried out by al-Qaeda to target the southern army. A number of Houthi attacks had been foiled in the recent days on several fronts in al-Dhale, Lahj, Abyan and Shabwa.
