Chief of Staff of the First Brigade (Shabwa Defense Forces) Brigadier General Ahmed Mohsen Al-Sulaimani survived an assassination attempt by a drone attack launched by al-Qaeda terrorist group in Al-Musina’a of Shabwa governorate on Tuesday.
Military sources said that al-Qaeda armed drone fired repeatedly at Al-Sulaimani's vehicle with 23 mm caliber bullets in a bid to kill the southern commander.
Al-Sulaimani was injured in the terrorist attack and immediately transferred to hospital for medical treatment where he was visited by the governor of Shabwa, Awadh bin al-Wazir al-Awlaki.
Shabwa witnessed the same day a terrorist operation conducted by al-Qaeda against a military vehicle carrying soldiers of Shabwa Defense Forces. A blast of booby-trapped motorcycle injured eight soldiers in Baihan district.
It is worth noting that a large-scale operation launched by the Southern Armed Forces in Abyan and Shabwa last year to track down Al-Qaeda militants and dry up the sources of terrorism in the two provinces.
