The Security Belt forces accompanied by a specialized team from the National Demining Program managed on Sunday to remove a number of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), ammo cases, tank shells and B-10 rounds in Ribat area on the outskirts of Aden.
After the pro-Iran Houthi putschist militias were vanquished in Aden and the South, they arbitrarily planted landmines in the sites they were expelled from. The largely unmapped Houthi-laid explosive devices remain a significant threat to many people in the South.
A UN panel of experts said in 2016 that the Houthis had used land mines in their retreat from the southern city of Aden. Since 2016, land mines and other explosives planted by the Houthis have killed at least 222 civilians and wounded others in 114 incidents, according to ACLED.
