One civilian was killed in a terrorist attack carried out by armed gunmen of Islah Party (Yemen's Muslim Brotherhood) targeting a hospital in Ataq, the capital of Shabwa on Tuesday.
A number of gunmen of the Brotherhood's militias unexpectedly started firing machine-guns at the main hospital of Ataq. The bullets hit the exterior walls and front windows, but also killed a man who was inside the hospital for accompanying a patient, local sources said.
The attack caused a state of fear and panic amongst the people, especially the medical staff of the hospital who told the local press that they are unable to provide any services under the current circumstances.
Observers and activists noted that the incident occurred in retaliation for the painful defeat the Islah-linked armed groups suffered in the failed rebellion that took place in Ataq on Monday, against the governor of the province, Awadh bin al-Wazir al-Awlaki who sacked the commander of the Special Security Forces along with other senior military officials for their involvement in armed clashes that cost the lives of a number of soldiers in Ataq last month.
