Unidentified gunmen assassinated on Saturday, the former Head of the local leadership of the Southern Transitional Council in Wadi Hadramout.
Local residents told the press that the STC official Salem al-Sai'ari was killed in an ambush set by gunmen believed to be terrorists.
The Southern Transitional Council in a statement condemned the assassination and urged the local authorities to open an investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Last month, ten jailed al-Qaeda militants escaped from Seiyun's prison in Wadi Hadramout.
Security officials told Associated Press that "investigations indicated that the inmates must have coordinated their move with prison guards who collaborated, as well as other militants from outside."
The regions of Wadi Hadramout witnesses a clear breakdown of peace and security. Several serious crimes were committed there, including killing and assassination of civilians and military personnel, most of the victims are the opponents of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood organization.
