The Russian President’s Special Envoy to the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov met in Moscow on Monday, with the President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Commander-in-Chief of Southern Armed Forces, Aidroos Qassem al-Zubaidi.
Bogdanov and Al-Zubaidi held long discussions on the political, security and humanitarian developments in Yemen in general and the South in particular, said a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The discussions focused on the tasks of the newly formed power-sharing government that the STC is a part of it for the first time, the statement indicated.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the two men touched on the means to end the conflict in Yemen to start peace talks between the official Yemeni authorities and the Houthi movement.
Russia stressed the need for a comprehensive national dialogue that takes into account the legitimate interests and issues of all the political forces in the country to reach a permanent solution to many problems, including the organization of regional and political structures.
Bogdanov confirmed that his country supports a comprehensive political process that guarantees an end to the war in Yemen and addresses all issues, in particular the Southern Issue expressing Russia's respect for the aspirations of the people.
Al-Zubaidi arrived yesterday in Moscow leading a high-level delegation in response to an invitation by the Russian government.
