President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Major General Aidroos Al-Zubaidi pronounced an important political speech in a symposium organized on Tuesday, by the British Parliament at the Foreign Policy Centre in the city of London.
Al-Zubaidi reviewed the STC vision of ending the war in Yemen and solving the southern issue in accordance with the demands and aspirations of the Southerners, affirming that the Yemeni unity was a failed project.
He confirmed that the return of two independent states in the North and the South does not redound to the benefit of the South only, but also serves the North, the region and the world, pointing out that the other choice is the continuation of conflicts, wars and security and economic turmoils, in addition to the spread of terrorist groups politically motivated by northern parties which certainly lead to harming many local, regional and international interests.
He made it clear that the southern people don't accept anymore the imposition of any options at odds with their interests and the aspirations, thus the return to the two-state systems with the 1990 borders will be the only real guarantee of the return of a normal relationship between the two peoples and countries and will enable both of them to build their respective future away from from wars, conflicts and tensions, what's more they will be free from any tutelage or subordination.
Al-Zubaidi affirmed that the only way out of the crisis in Yemen is through the following:
1- To end the war in the north, implement all the signed agreements, including the U.N-brokered-agreement in Stockholm and return to political track with a view to tackling all the crisis-related problems, including the southern issue.
2- Reconsider the ruling system by returning to the systems of the two states in the South and the North and to proceed with the construction of a new relationship and partnerships between the two neighboring peoples and countries; the South and the North.
3- Create two federal States, formed from totally independent entities according to the circumstances of the populations, taking into account the religious differences in the North and geographical, economic and regional differences in the South, in addition to fighting terrorism and the prevention of recruitment in armed groups and limiting the possession of arms to the two legitimate states only represented by their respective armies and security bodies.
4- And to proceed with an intensive reconstruction program in the two countries to address the devastating impact of wars and conflicts and to start a comprehensive rehabilitation program for the two countries to keep them abreast of the economic, social, service, scientific and technological development in the world.
