Education is the foundation for the advancement of society, the member of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Vice-President of the National Assembly for Control and Inspection, Mr. Lufti Shatara said on Sunday morning.

Shatara indicated on his official Twitter account that there are a lot of issues to be resolved, such as public services, including water and electricity, as part of the responsibility of the governor of Aden Ahmed Lamlas, but starting by making a loud appeal to the educators in order to reopen schools and to end a one-year teachers' strike would reflect the tendency of the governor backed by the STC towards changing the situation for the better.

The Southern Teachers Union is on strike for a year now in a bid to force the government to improve their working and employment conditions and increase their salaries in addition to other issues related to annual bonuses and functional grades.

Many people, including parents and teachers in Aden disapproved of the strike that suspended the educational process in all the public schools and deprived pupils and students of their right to education.
