The pro-government Muslim Brotherhood's militias (Islah Party) seized in the early hours of Wednesday, fuel tankers sent to Socotra archipelago as a free gift by the UAE's Khalifa Humanitarian Foundation, as a part of the UAE's efforts to support the energy infrastructure in the island.

Well informed sources said that the armed militias received orders from the Islah-linked governor, Ramzi Mahrous to impose customs duties on the free fuel shipment to the Electricity Corporation in the archipelago.

According to the laws in use, the assistance provided by the donors as free gifts is not classified for tariff.

Observers said that the Islah-linked authorities in Socotra have persisted in obstructing relief and humanitarian efforts to double the suffering of the people, in particular they target the aid given by the UAE.
