Heavy fighting continues in the vicinity of Shuqra of Abyan province between between the southern armed forces and the pro-government Muslim Brotherhood's militias on Friday.
Military field sources said that the militias of Islah party suffered heavy human and material losses in armed clashes erupted in al-Tariya.
In another development, the prominent southern tribal sheikh, Abdul-Rab al-Naqib called on Thursday, for general mobilization of forces to confront the Muslim Brotherhood's militias and complete the liberation of all the occupied territories in Abyan and the South.
On Monday, the southern forces managed to seize control of Qarn Al-Classi area after fierce fighting, included the use of heavy weapons. A large number of Islah's fighters were killed, injured and captured in Monday's battles.
U.N. envoy Martin Griffiths called on the Government of Yemen and the Southern Transitional Council to intensify their efforts toward the urgent resumption of the implementation of the Saudi-mediated Riyadh Agreement signed last November.
For their part, Security Council members on Thursday urged warring parties in Yemen to quickly agree to a nationwide cease-fire put forward by U.N. envoy Martin Griffiths as the best way to end suffering and contain COVID-19.
