Yemeni military sources in the southwestern province of al-Dhalea said more than 20 Houthi gunmen were killed and many others wounded in heavy fighting over the weekend.
Among those killed was a Houthi battalion leader who went by the name “Abu al-Karar,” the sources said.
During the clashes, Yemen’s internationally-recognized armed forces thwarted two violent attacks against the Houthi militias in several villages across the province.
Eyewitnesses described the battles on Sunday as the worst seen since the arrival of armed forces on the outskirts of the city earlier this month.
