At least two soldiers were killed in a terrorist attack carried out late in the night on Thursday in Abyan governorate, by unknown gunmen, believed to be Al Qaeda affiliates.

Security officials told the local news websites that the terrorists planted an explosive device near a checkpoint in Dathina of Abyan province, adding that the roadside bomb targeted a military vehicle carrying soldiers.

The same sources said that the explosion killed two soldiers of the Security Belt Forces.

The incident took place only a few hours after the chairman of the Southern Resistance Council, Abdel Nasser Ba'oa (Abu Hammam) survived an assassination attempt in Aden.
