The Saudi-led Arab coalition carried out several air strikes on Monday, targeting Houthi military sites in the capital Sanaa.

A number of sensitive sites including the presidential palace compound, a military school and an air base close to Sanaa airport were hit, and loud explosions were heard across the city, residents said.

The coalition said the operation was aimed at destroying “legitimate military targets including Houthi ballistic batteries which threaten civilian lives.”

On Sunday, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths expressed his dismay and disappointment with the Houthi military activities in Yemen and the attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

He reiterated the Secretary-General's call for an immediate cessation of hostilities to build a conducive environment for achieving a nation-wide ceasefire.
