President of the Southern Transitional Council and Supreme Commander of the Southern Armed Forces, Aidroos Qassem al-Zubaidi held on Saturday a video conference with the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths.

The two men discussed the efforts exerted to resolve the Yemeni crisis and combat a potential outbreak of coronavirus in addition to the humanitarian situation in the war-torn country.

The both sides aggreed on the importance of continued communication between the STC and the Office of the Special Envoy (OSESGY) and to holding a face-to-face meeting in the coming weeks.

In a tweet the Special Envoy thanked the STC for supporting the UN cheif's appeal for ceasefire in Yemen.

The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on the parties to work with his Special Envoy to achieve a nation-wide de-escalation; progress on economic and humanitarian measures that will alleviate suffering and build confidence; and the resumption of an inclusive, Yemeni-led political process.

Last Tuesday, the STC welcomed the call launched by the UN Secretary-General for immediate cessation of hostilities and unifying efforts to combat a potential outbreak of coronavirus.

In a televised address earlier, Al-Zubaidi called on all the political parties to rise above their disputes and join efforts in the fight against potential outbreak of COVID-19 in the country.
