The Southern Transitional Council (STC) welcomed the cal launched by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for immediate cessation of hostilities and unifying efforts to combat a potential outbreak of coronavirus.
The STC General Directorate for Foreign Affairs said in a press release on Wednesday that the UN call confirmed the importance of the televised speech last Monday, by the President of the Southern Transitional Council and Supreme Commander of the Southern Armed Forces, Aidroos Qassem al-Zubaidi.
In a televised address, Al-Zubaidi called on all the political parties to rise above their disputes and join efforts in the fight against potential outbreak of COVID-19 in the country.
He urged to tighten the security measures in coordination with the Arab Coalition forces in order to protect maritime borders and prevent illegal immigration from the African Horn and called for international rapid intervention to save the people of the South and provide them with food and medical equipment and supplies.
It's worth mentioning that the UN Secretary-General called on the parties to work with his Special Envoy to achieve a nation-wide de-escalation; progress on economic and humanitarian measures that will alleviate suffering and build confidence; and the resumption of an inclusive, Yemeni-led political process.
The UN Secretary-General emphasized that a political solution is the only way to a comprehensive and sustainable resolution of the conflict in Yemen.
