The Iranian-backed Houthi putschist militia called for "swift reprisals" for the killing of the architect of Tehran’s proxy wars in the Middle East, Major General Qasem Soleimani in a US strike at Baghdad’s international airport on Friday.

"We condemn this killing and direct and swift reprisals are the answer," senior rebel political official Mohammed Ali al-Huthi tweeted.

Houthi militia was the only Iranian arm in the Middle East to threaten with reprisals for the killing of Soleimani in a bid to prove its allegiance to Iran.

According to observers the Houthi position will drag war-torn Yemen into more crises as the other Iranian arms preferred silence.

Southern Academic, Dr. Hussein Laqour said in a tweet that "Iran will not dare do anything, but it will assign the task of retaliation to its terrorist groups."

For his part, the Saudi writer and journalist Yahya al-Ameer tweeted that "the Iranian-backed Houthi militia wants to take over all Yemen and turn it into a large device to implement the Iranian agenda in the region.

The Saudi-led Arab Coalition accuses Iran of providing the Houthis with sophisticated weapons to use against Saudi airports and oil facilities, something Tehran denies.

In September, the Yemeni rebels claimed responsibility for twin drone and missile strikes on Saudi oil facilities. The United States dismissed the rebel claim and alleged that it was Iran itself which orchestrated the attacks, something Tehran again denied.
