Vice president of the Southern Transitional Council, Sheikh Hani Ben Brik gave an interview to BBC News Arabic during which he sent many clear messages to the inside and outside.

Sheikh Hani said that the southern state existed since independence from Britain in 1967 and it was unified with the Yemen Arab Republic in 1990, in the summer of 1994, his Excellency President Ali Salem Al-Baidh declared its secession but the northern forces invaded the South, at that time, the whole world denounced that invasion, cause unity cannot be imposed by force.

Sheikh Hani added that the South has been invaded and violated. The international and customary legal characterization of 1994 war is a full-fledged occupation.

He also said: "We responded to those who say that Yemen must remain united, go and get united with the North yourself, we tried the unity and re-attempt the already attempted  pointless."

He made it clear that the Southerners and the mature and wise tribal and political forces in the North believe that the unity failed and the hope is to be in two adjacent and mutually supportive States, reconciled with one another, protecting their respective interests and the interests of the neighbouring countries and the whole world, this is the best for all.

The interview with the vice president of the Southern Transitional Council, Sheikh Hani Ben Brik is to be broadcast in Arabic on BBC television tomorrow at 17:30 GMT.
