The Yemeni Government submitted a request to the American Government to ban dealing with the Yemeni antiquities and artefacts in the American market.

In a statement to the Yemeni Government's News Agency SABA, Minister of Culture Marwan Dammaj said that a  consultative panel from the American government is set to convene on  October 29th  to discuss the Yemeni government's request to ban illegal trafficking of Yemeni antiquities and artifacts in the US.

The Minister stated that the government requested to ban importing and transporting Yemeni cultural properties in the US, according to the article (9) of the UNESCO agreement. Our country accomplished the necessary procedures to endorse the article last September.

The Minister of Culture pointed out that the Yemeni embassy in Washington is making great efforts to push this file forward which aims at preventing the circulation of Yemeni antiquities in the America markets.

The government's request followed witnessing the Houthi militias smuggling Yemeni antiquities abroad as part of their plan to demolish the country's historical symbols and antiques.
