The U.N. special envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths met in the Saudi capital Riyadh today with the Yemeni vice president Ali Mohsen Al-Ahmar in presence of the Prime Minister of the legitimate government Ahmed Obaid bin Dagher, to discuss the latest developments and UN efforts to reach a peaceful solution.
The meeting took place in the light of the many changes at the level of the Yemeni crisis, especially in the south and after the meeting of Griffiths with the STC President, Aidroos Qassem Al-Zubaidi in Abu Dhabi a few days ago.
The Southern Transitional Council recently called on in its statement, the people to seize control of all the internal revenue institutions and to expel the corrupt officials and their gangs by peaceful means. The STC call was completely rejected by the government that pledged to decisively confront it.
According to Saba news agency, the legitimate government renewed its commitment to the three references to the solution in Yemen; the Gulf Initiative, outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue and Security Council Resolution 2216.
The leadership of legitimacy reaffirmed its commitment to the option of peace and ending the war, condemning the continued crimes of the Iran-backed Houthi putschist militias and their intransigence and evasion regarding the commitments of the peace talks. The government also called on the international community to put pressure on Iran-backed Houthi militias to implement international resolutions.
